Why APSM

The jump from school maths to the Olympiad is too big to make in one leap.

Students who go straight from school maths to olympiad problems often stall. TeamMathics bridges the gap in two steps: PSM takes students from school maths to competition maths, and APSM takes them from competition maths to olympiad-level maths.

School Maths → Competition Maths (via TeamMathics PSM Programme) → Olympiad-level Maths (via TeamMathics APSM Programme: Stage 1 · Pre MO, Stage 2 · Core MO). The programme

One programme, two stages

APSM is a long-term, well-structured Math Olympiad course. It strengthens MO prerequisite knowledge before advancing to the MO Core Topics — all within the same programme.

Stage 1 · Pre MO

Strengthen MO prerequisite knowledge

Build the strong foundation through our Pre MO content, so students have a smaller learning gap and more confidence to master Core MO skills.

Stage 2 · Core MO

Master the 4 MO Core Topics

  • Set 1: Algebra
  • Set 2: Number Theory
  • Set 3: Geometry
  • Set 4: Combinatorics

Two-in-one learning value. One programme fee covers both the MO prerequisite knowledge and the 4 MO Core Topics.

FAQ

Questions parents ask

Who is APSM for?

Students aiming for better results in Maths Olympiad competitions, or ready to bridge the gap between competition maths and olympiad-level maths. It is ideal for students with Gold, Silver, Bronze or Honourable Mention results in MO competitions. Classes run from Level 2 (Primary 2) up to Senior Secondary (Year 10–13).

How is APSM different from PSM?

PSM (Problem-Solving Maths) bridges school maths to competition maths using DOK-based learning. APSM is the advanced next step: it strengthens MO prerequisite knowledge, then advances to the 4 MO Core Topics — Algebra, Number Theory, Geometry and Combinatorics.

Are classes online or in a centre?

There are three ways to join. Students in the Klang Valley can attend physical classes at a nearby TeamMathics centre. Students in Penang, outstation or overseas can join live online classes. Students who cannot match any class time can opt for the APSM Self Learning Programme (APSM-SLP).

What is the OASIS Methodology?

OASIS stands for Observe & Analyse, Solve It, Systematic Checking — the TeamMathics steps for Effective Problem Solving (EPS). It guides students to think systematically and write step-by-step solutions with meaningful reasoning.

Can APSM help my child join Team Malaysia?

APSM builds the olympiad-level problem solving ability that international Finals demand. Places at the Finals come through first round competition results — for example Gold, Silver or Bronze in DOKA, SASMO, AMO or SMC. TeamMathics is the official training partner that trains Team Malaysia for these Finals.

What does the programme fee include?

One programme fee covers both MO prerequisite knowledge and the 4 MO Core Topics. For physical and online APSM classes, each lesson is 1.5 hours and a fixed 12 lessons per quarter. APSM-SLP is more flexible — students can learn our content at their preferred time and venue. For current fees, welcome to contact our consultants.
